Pippa Apps

I have an MSc in Animal Behaviour & Psychology and a wealth of practical experience with both domestic and captive animals. I have a particular interest in dogs and elephants and am a published behaviour specialist for both these animals. My MSc concentrated on the structure of female elephant herds and their affiliative behaviours (not so useful in the UK!).

I was Head of Education at Howletts & Port Lympne Conservation Parks, educating school groups and visitors on the current status of animal conservation and the unfortunate illegal trade of animal wildlife. I left there to follow my desire to use my knowledge of animal behaviour to help on a practical level, improving the relationship and reducing communication issues between owners and their dogs. I started up Best Behaviour School for Dogs in 2004 and am very proud to have built it into a successful company with a professional and fun team.

My aim with Best Behaviour School for Dogs is to prevent or counter-condition dog behaviour that owners find unacceptable, in a way that decreases stress and anxiety for our dogs. We achieve this through individual consultations, training classes and our unique exercise and socialisation service.

  • Consultant to local councils regarding dangerous dog incidences,
  • Employed by fostering agencies to temperament assess dogs owned by prospective carers.
  • Lecture at a variety of universities on Animal Behaviour
  • First port of call for Kent and London based Media to discuss topical dog related issues.
  • Worked with Medical Detection Dogs, a charity which trains specialist dogs to detect human disease. Medical Assistance dogs alert to odour changes enabling people to live with complex medical conditions such as diabetes.

Pippa offers personal training consultations throughout the South East and helps with all dog schools.
