About this course
It is very common for dogs to react in a negative way towards other dogs. This can be due to an anxious temperament, forward going behaviour, a bad experience with other dogs or lack of appropriate socialisation as a puppy.
Aggression is a normal form of communication in dogs, yet the display of aggression towards dogs is incredibly problematic in a domestic setting.
Aggression towards other dogs can often be the result of antisocial experiences, badly managed group situations can inflict lasting trauma.
Through completing this course you will learn about the various types of aggression, how aggression escalates through the aggression spectrum and how to confidently counter- condition aggression in your dog.
What We’ll Cover
Section 1
Different forms of aggression
There are many types of aggression and we compartmentalise these forms of aggression into three main categories:
- 1. Forward-going aggression
- 2. Fear-based aggression
- 3. Social aggression
Section 2
The Aggression Spectrum
Nervous aggression manifests in the form of barking, lunging, snapping and biting other dogs on a walk. This behaviour develops over time as a compounded learnt response that dogs move away from them if they react in this way. A dog’s response to another dog escalates up though the aggression spectrum over time, until a dog uses full on aggression immediately as they see another dog.
Section 3
Innate needs
We need to counter this behavioural response through training & leadership. We must ensure that their innate needs are met in order to do this.
Section 4
Training
You need to ensure that you have a good base level of training with your dog. We need to introduce this training in the house, garden and on walk to help counter condition this behaviour. Commands should include sit, wait, look/look at me & heel/Lead work.
Section 5
Practical demonstrations on how to counter – condition aggression
We will show you different methods on how to use these training techniques to counter an aggressive response.
